| On April 12, 2005, the first press articles announcing
the National Geographic Genographic Project debuted in the media:
The Genographic Project is a five-year study of how mankind
populated the Earth. The study has a public component where participants may
purchase a DNA kit for $99 which will be processed by Family Tree DNA. When a
participant receives their results, they may choose to join one of the surname or
geographical DNA projects already established with Family Tree DNA.
