Geneanet is a genealogy website launched in 1996 and with headquarters in Paris, France.[1]

On 17 February 2020 (the eve of RootsTech), the company announced the launch of Geneanet DNA, a new beta autosomal DNA matching service which allowed members to upload the raw data provided by any of the main DNA companies, and to compare it to other Geneanet members' DNA data for finding new relatives.[2] Completely free of charge, Geneanet DNA supported autosomal DNA data from AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage, Family Tree DNA and Living DNA. At that time Geneanet described itself as "the leading genealogy website in Europe" and claimed "about 4 million members".[3]

On 30 August 2021 it was announced that Geneanet had been acquired by Ancestry.[4]

On 20 November 2023 Geneanet announced that they would be discontinuing their DNA features. They commented that "we have not seen the success we had hoped for and we have therefore made the difficult decision to stop Geneanet DNA in order to concentrate on more promising Geneanet features and services". Uploads ceased with effect from 20 November 2023 and the Geneanet DNA site will be deleted on 20 December 2023.[5]
